Inherent in our mission, vision, and values is a commitment to serving our community. As part of this commitment, we are dedicating each month for the rest of this year to one or two community organizations in our area that we will support. I encourage each of you to participate if you are able. Please see details about upcoming service opportunities and how to get involved with each one below.
TRU: PALISADE PEACH SALE (August 21)
TRU is hosting our annual Palisade Peach Sale and we need 20 volunteers to help pull off the Peach Pick-up on Saturday, August 21st at TRU PACE. It’s early in the morning, but it’s fun! Here’s the Sign-Up Genius form. Don’t forget to order your peaches today!
VITALANT: BLOOD DRIVE (September 16)
TRU will host a blood drive through Vitalant Blood Donation on Thursday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Trailridge conference rooms. Sign-up is required and a link is coming soon. We will have 27 available appointment slots. Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, and we want to do our part to help. This constant need for blood can only be met by generous donors like you, and when you give blood, you could save the life of a cancer patient or someone needing open-heart surgery. Remember, it’s the blood on the shelves hospitals turn to in emergency situations.
WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S (October 9)
Join the TRU Purple Pacers team to walk together on October 9 at CU Boulder in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We walk to honor our mothers, fathers, and other relatives and friends who had or have Alzheimer’s. And we walk in honor of the residents we love and care for at Landmark Memory Care. While there is an option to fundraise, you are welcome to join and walk without raising money. You can join the team or donate to the team here.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: HOME BUILD (October TBD)
Flatirons Habitat for Humanity partners with the people in our community to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners build their own homes alongside volunteers (like us!) and pay an affordable mortgage. With the support of our volunteers, partners, and donors, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build better lives for themselves and for their families. We hope to have 10 spots for a home build on Saturday, September 11 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and will accept volunteers in the order they indicate interest and availability by emailing jenthomas@trucare.org.
PAYROLL DEDUCTION SIGN-UP CONTEST (November)
We are holding a drawing for all employees enrolled in TRU payroll deductions on November 30. The winner will receive a gift basket with $300+ worth of prizes, including a FitBit Versa 2. If you aren’t yet enrolled in payroll deductions, sign up today. Everyone who is already signed up will also be entered to win, so don’t feel like you have to wait until November. You can allocate your deductions to Bumbuli, the TRU Employee Education Fund, and/or general operations. Even $3 per pay period goes a long way!
POTLUCK TO SUPPORT BUMBULI (December TBD)
Seeking to embrace and support a mission beyond our local community, in 2006 TRU Community Care formed a partnership with Bumbuli Hospice in Tanzania. This special relationship remains strong, with TRU employees making contributions through snack purchases and payroll deductions, and we hope to soon get back to traveling to Tanzania to work alongside Bumbuli’s team to learn more about the challenges they face. Our in-person potlucks have been on hold for more than a year, and we can’t wait to return to them!
LOOKING BACK…
Here are a few of the ways we’ve supported our community this year:
SISTER CARMEN: FOOD DRIVE (June 2021)
Thank you to everyone who participated in our drive for Sister Carmen! We collected more than 300 pounds of items to support their mission to provide assistance to residents of East Boulder County who are in need, without discrimination.
A BOOK IN HAND: BOOK DRIVE (July 23 – 30)
Thanks to you, we were able to support A Book in Hand, a local nonprofit organization that gets quality picture and story books, as well as basic information on how to use books to foster early language, book handling and pre-literacy skills, into the hands of young children from economically challenged families.
