Volunteer opportunities are available to match a variety of interests, skills, and schedules. Training is provided for every volunteer role.
Ways to Serve
Patient & Family Support
Provide companionship, comfort, and practical support to hospice and palliative care patients and their loved ones. Volunteers may visit with patients, offer caregiver respite, assist with everyday tasks, or share specialized skills such as music, massage, pet therapy, or end-of-life support.
The Conversation Project in Boulder County
Help people plan for future healthcare by guiding meaningful conversations about what matters most. Volunteers provide advance care planning coaching and educational presentations that empower individuals to document and communicate their healthcare wishes.
Grief Services
Support individuals and families as they navigate life after the loss of a loved one. Volunteers make bereavement calls, assist with grief support groups, and help create compassionate community events that foster healing and connection.
TRU PACE
Bring joy and companionship to older adults attending the TRU PACE Day Center. Volunteers help create a welcoming environment through conversation, games, music, crafts, meals, and other engaging activities.
Landmark Memory Care
Enhance the daily lives of residents living with dementia through friendship and meaningful engagement. Volunteers share music, art, games, movement, pet visits, and simple moments of connection that brighten each day.
Administrative & Community Support
Support TRU’s mission behind the scenes by sharing your organizational or creative talents. Volunteers assist with administrative projects, marketing and communications, fundraising events, tuck-in calls, and other essential activities that help our programs thrive.
TRU Thrift Shop
Help power one of TRU’s most visible community resources while supporting our mission. Volunteers assist with customer service, merchandising, donation processing, online sales, cashiering, and other store operations in a fun, team-oriented environment.

What to Expect
We’ll guide you every step of the way. Volunteering at TRU is supported, thoughtful, and well-prepared.
- Training and screening: Orientation, role-specific training, background checks, and health requirements as needed
- Flexible schedules: Weekday, evening, or weekend options depending on the role
- Support: Staff mentors, continuing education, and regular check-ins

Getting Started
Starting is simple — and supported.
We welcome younger volunteers and community groups in specific roles.
- Limited roles for teens with a parent or guardian (shop or events)
- Internships or practicums for eligible academic programs (by arrangement)
One-day or recurring group service projects (shop, events, or facilities)
Specialty programs offer unique ways to connect and serve.
- Veteran-to-veteran visits and pinning ceremonies honoring service
- Music volunteers and community singing groups at select events
- Handmade comfort items (shawls, blankets) coordinated by staff
- Patient-facing roles: 2-4 hours per week for at least one year; TB test required.
- Thrift shop and administrative roles: Flexible shifts; lifting limits vary by role
- Events: As scheduled
Clear boundaries help protect volunteers, patients, and families.
- Volunteers do not provide medical care, administer medications, or offer financial or transportation support
- Concerns are promptly shared with staff so care remains coordinated and safe
