Utilizing Chat Function Through Zoom

How to Access Safe Encrypted Messaging through Zoom

While email is down we will utilize the encrypted chat function within Zoom to quickly connect on patient related needs. Please ensure that your iPhone settings allow for Zoom notifications so that you will know you have a message waiting for you within the app. 

On iPhone:

To send a chat using Zoom app on iPhone:

  • Open Zoom app on your work phone
  • Sign in 
    • If you have logged into Zoom before, you should know your login info and shouldn’t have a problem
    • If this is the first time you are logging in, use your email address as your login and TRUwinter2020 as your temporary password
  • Go to the paper and pencil icon in the upper righthand corner of your screen
  • Search for the person or people you want to message. 
  • Click OK once you’ve selected the person or people. This will open the chat.
  • Type your message and hit the blue arrow to the bottom right to send 

To receive a chat using Zoom app on iPhone:

  • Zoom app on your phone should show a red number to indicate if you have a new message
  • Open Zoom app 
  • Sign in if necessary (it should remember login info if you’ve signed in before)
  • You should see a red number to the right of the new message you’ve received
  • Click on that person/message to open your thread
  • Important: please reply so that the person knows you’ve received the message

On laptop/desktop:

To send a chat through Zoom on your laptop/desktop:

  • Open the Zoom app on your laptop (type Zoom in your Windows search bar or open from Windows startup menu) – do NOT use in a regular browser – only use the app
  • Log into Zoom
    • If you have logged into Zoom before, you should know your login info and shouldn’t have a problem
    • If this is the first time you are logging in, use your email address as your login and TRUwinter2020 as your temporary password
  • Go to Chat at top of screen 
  • Go to Jump to… box in upper lefthand corner 
  • Start searching the person you want to communicate with and click on their name
  • Begin typing your message and hit enter to send

To receive a chat in Zoom on your laptop/desktop

  • Open Zoom on your laptop/desktop
  • Sign in if necessary
  • You should see a red number to the right of the new message you’ve received on the chat icon if you have a new message
  • Click on the chat icon
  • You will see a red number to the right of any contacts who have sent you a new message (along left side of screen)
  • Click on that person to open your thread

Important: please reply so that the person knows you’ve received the message
