Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities in Boulder & Beyond

TRU Community Care provides hospice services, home health, and grief support for patients and families in our services area including Adams, Boulder, Jefferson, southwest Weld counties.  TRU Community Care encompasses a continuum of care for those with advanced illness. Acupuncture Certified acupuncture practitioners offer treatments at the TRU Hospice Care Center in Boulder, CO, and in patients’ homes to calm, alleviate pain, and encourage sleep.

Administrative Assist staff with mailings, data entry, and special projects at our various offices, such as in Lafayette, CO.

Adult Grief Group Facilitators Co-facilitate grief groups to help adults cope with grief. Previous group facilitation experience preferred.

Aromatherapy Volunteers are trained to incorporate essential oils into therapies or diffuse them into the air to manage symptoms.

Bereavement Support family members by offering a listening ear and comforting presence for up to 13 months after the loss of a loved one.

Comfort Touch Volunteers receive training in Comfort Touch which is a deeply relaxing and nurturing form of acupressure. It is safe, appropriate, and effective as a complementary therapy for hospice patients and their families.

Craniosacral Therapy Craniosacral therapists are utilized to apply light touch to the head, neck, spine, feet and joints to promote deep relaxation and reduce anxiety and depression.

Education/Outreach Volunteers make presentations and host booths at community events on behalf of TRU Community Care in Boulder County and beyond.

Healing Circles Group Facilitator Work with licensed staff counselors to help children, teens, and their families cope with grief.

Massage Therapy Registered therapists and interns give gentle massages on a voluntary basis to patients and family members.

Music Talented musicians are invited to offer soothing music tailored to patients’ preferences. Volunteers help by identifying favorite music to stimulate memories and conversation.

Patient Care Volunteers offer companionship to patients, run errands, complete chores, and provide respite so family members can take care of other responsibilities or simply relax.

Pet Companion Trained volunteers visit patients with their pet therapy-certified companions.

Special Events  Have fun while fundraising at various events throughout the year to support patient care grief services and our Care Center among other programs.

Thrift Shop Volunteers at TRU Hospice Thrift Shop in Boulder, CO, sort and price merchandise, organize and display items, cashier, greet customers, and pick up donations in the community.

Veteran-to-Veteran TRU Heroes, a special end-of-life care program tailored to the specific needs of veterans and their families, is enlisting volunteers with military backgrounds to assist terminally ill veterans. With a common bond of military service, veterans share unique experiences that enable them to understand issues and memories that often surface and sometimes intensify at the end of life.

Founded as Boulder Hospice in 1976, TRU is a Colorado-licensed, Medicare and Medicaid-certified, nonprofit health care organization serving Boulder, Broomfield, Adams, Jefferson, Denver, and Weld Counties and beyond. With a focus on providing a continuum of care for members of our community living with advanced illness and loss, TRU’s programs include TRU Hospice, TRU PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), TRU Palliative Care, Landmark Memory Care, and TRU Grief Services.

TRU Hospice is proudly accredited by The Joint Commission and is a five-star-level hospice in NHPCO's We Honor Veterans program created in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). TRU is a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC), Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE), and the National PACE Association (NPA).
